Start with a subject........I'm assuming the colored leaves are supposed to be it in this shot. Concentrate your attention and lens on the subject, then shoot. Forget about all the other stuff around it. Try not to get anything in the shot but what you see in your minds eye............ Make sure the subject is in focus. Try not to take outside shots during the time when the sun is at it's best; a cloudy day for outside shots works best most of the time. You get truer colors then. Try different angles on your shots; don't always shoot "straight on". Pay attention to what you are doing, and practice, practice, practice until you think you can't practice any more...........then, practice again................ I'm sure you'll get more suggestions from some more of the crew around here. If you'll follow the advice and really study some of the work on here, you'll be amazed at the results you'll come up with. Welcome to the site, and good luck with your photography!

  • Good advice from KayN. I've been shooting for over 50 years and I'm still practicing....

  • Yep! What KayN said & Don too! I also found that it helped to pick one subject & shoot it til I was sick of it. =) Have fun!

all of the above... most importantly have fun, experiment, different light, close up vs far away for the same subject... take 1000s of shots and then take another 1000. Have fun, can't repeat that one enough

  • Kitzi had a good point in the "have fun". When you aren't having fun taking photos it becomes a job and we all know how boring jobs can get. Kay also had one of the biggest ones... slow down and take the time to really look at your subject, the lighting and the way you have the shot framed. You can spend time shooting 100 frames not really looking and end up with half a dozen keeper shots. You can slow down and take half a dozen and have time left over to get another half a dozen that are good. While in a few cases having bright sun is a good thing, most of the time it's not. I have places I won't even bother to go if the sun is out like on the river or to a waterfall. There are other places I will only go in the morning or evening so the sun is in the right place.

  • Welcome to photographica. Plenty of good advise up there. On presentation, try to put the boarder completely around the picture, or leave out the boarder completely.
