I came up to a stop light today and saw this on my right...I grabbed my camera and very quickly tried to shoot this before the light changed.  I didn't have a chance to go back and try again...it's at a pretty busy intersection.  Anyway, I love the look of this with the clouds and the plane in the background.  It looks a little washed out to me......so is there anything I can do to fix this....or is it one for the round file???

  • don't know about fixing, but looking at this picture looks like the plane is trying to stay ahead of a storm......like it.

  • That really depends on what you are wanting. There are a number of things you could do.

Couple of suggestions to brighten things up: !. Try Hue and Saturation.. carefully, less is more. 2. Levels , bar at the bottom increases luminosity.. top is saturation, use each of the RGB channels separately... hope this helps.

If the plane had been closer for more definition it would have been twice as amazing IMO. You have a great eye to have seen the potential in this shot!

  • Can't offer any advice, but what an unusual capture! I really like it. Is that a music shop the piano is on? That is a piano, right? =)

LaPineian, It's actually an old antique store with an old piano on top of it..... I just thought with the clouds in the background it might be kind of cool looking...it is...but I didn't get it quite the way I wanted.

Neat shot, I bet without the plane it would be a great shot. Other than that I don't know what you can do. :o)

  • I like the shot and think it has alot of potential... and you asked so I played with it.. all I did was clean it up a bit.. got rid of the airplane and highlighted the Piano.. you truly have a Concert in the Clouds going on here Jim... very nice idea... Jam9663

  • I LIKE the plane in there... it adds to the depth of the shot.... and makes it soooo much more unusual!!

  • I don't know if this is what you are looking for...but I made a layer...used levels to create darker clouds....then erased the piano/building to show the original portion of the photo there. (This is a sloppy job, sorry). For You!

I think you did help the picture Jo. I find the picture very interesting and can see why you took it. You don't often see a piano on a roof.

I agree with Lidljo, very interesting photo, and there is something about it that is mystical.

The original is very interesting as is, and I would want to keep the plane in it. That said, both SG and jojames offer a nice version too. This is the kind of shot I like to experiment with in PS, but for safety use a second copy so you always have the original. I would play with different contrasts with the sky and clouds, highlighting the piano, and maybe tilting the building a bit to see if square lines work better. Most of all I like the image because it is original and unique.

  • I think the photo is really cool!...I wouldn't do much...but couple of things you can do is add contrast subtly by using this method ...I picked this up somewhere: go to filter / sharpen / unsharp mask use these parameters: Amount 15% Radius 250 pixels threshold 0.... then add alittle sharpening (lab mode - lightness channel) as well going to Lab mode then sharpening the lightness channel only...using again unsharp mask....here's the results:http://images.photographica.org/images/user_images/1/2006/10/6/7137-YNEFERFANJ.jpg
