San Francisco From Twin Peaks

On my way back to SoCal from Stockton last month, I stopped off in San Francisco for a couple of days to visit with friends. A couple of us drove up to Twin Peaks to get a bird's eye Popup Linkview of the Popup Linkcity. The  Popup Linkobservation area was temporarily uncrowded as there was a lull in tour bus activity. Are there any bad vantages for shooting the Popup LinkGolden Gate?Or Popup LinkAlcatrazfor that matter?

I was hesitant to make the hike up to one of the actual peaks due to winds exceeding 40 knots, at the time. But my friend persisted in chiding me. I almost had him convinced the wind would blow us into the bay when a hundred pound Asian man walked by with his 5 year old daughter... heading up to the peak. My case was lost and up the spiraling path we went. Sure enough the winds were fierce. I kept my head down and my body as close to Mother Earth as possible.. to minimize the wind's effect on my person. No pictures going up or coming back down...I was focused on not being blown off the peak, lol. Once on top, I spied some rocks protruding some 8 inches above the center of the summit...I made my move and claimed them as my own. Sure, sure, an eight inch outcropping of rock on the top of  a hill doesn't afford much protection for a 6'4" 200 pounder, but dropping to my keester and catching my breath while clinging to the rock made me feel more secure anyway. So these two shots were my fruit for climbing.

Nice story man...and great shots of a great city! I had the same experience but at Buena Vista park near Haight & Masonic. I was with Blizzard and I was afraid.(BTW there is a good restaurant/brew pub right there The Magnolia). Debora...that is the first place I would take you. Such a city! I have many old pics of SF...I need to start scanning...

Great shots and great story, Foggy! I spent 6 weeks in Santa Clara back in the mid 80's while attending Measurex school in Cupertino. If I remember we drove mainly on Steven Creek Blvd. Didn't get into SF until class was over and the wife drove out so we could go on vacation. But did manage to get to Tahoe and Yosemite with some guys from class. Beautiful country. Beautiful city.

I coulodn't agree with you more, loweho. I lived in Sunnyvale myself for a year or so. Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay were both about 45 minute drives...Frisco about 40. One of my earliest "Wow"s ..after seeing the Pacific from Half Moon Bay, was seeing all the superlarge tech companies located in the area. Apple in Cupertino for example. All in all though, California just plain rox.

Terrific shots! What a great clear day to take them...and I think it's always windy up there--city ordinance.
