A question about using Mozilla

Has any one every lost their bookmarks while using Mozilla Firefox?  I have lost mine twice and it is getting annoying.  They are there one day and the next day they are not.  If they are hiding somewhere I cannot find them.  I had a great list of photography sites and now they are in cyberspace somewhere.

  • Okay, this is going to sound really, really dumb. My computer backs itself up entirely, twice a week. But...(here is the dumb part) how do I access just the bookmarks? Oh I can hear the groans now. Hey, what do you want from me;-) I am a poet, a painter, a writer, now a photographer. I can't be good at EVERYthing. LOL.

  • Try this and see if it will help you. http://www.pikey.me.uk/mozilla/?addon=bb

  • By default, your bookmark file for Firefox will be located in: C: \ Documents and Settings \ (windows user name) \ Application Data \ Mozilla \ Firefox \ Profiles \ 8yn6z6mu.default That last part will vary for every user, so it won't necessarily be those letters/numbers, but it will likely be the only folder you see in there. Open that folder and you should have a bookmark file... hope that helps...

  • Moose: that will help...but only if she can find the bookmarks she lost...it WILL help in the future though...

  • one quick note: if you keep losing your bookmarks, there's a good chance your firefox profile is corrupt. Try creating a new profile and start from scratch. Also, if you see more than one profile folder (xxxxxxxx.default) your bookmarks may be hiding in one of the other profiles...

  • Unfortunately I am not computer literate enough to know how to start a new profile Codepoit. Thanks for trying. I did a search for those files and nothing came up. I will have to wait for my son to come to visit and get him to do it for me. He is my computer tech. Perhaps I should go back to Internet Explorer. Thanks for trying Moose.

  • My suggestion is that you skip saving your bookmarks to your browser. The problem with this is that they are stored in your browser files on your computer. If you use another computer or even a different browser, you don't have access to your bookmarks. Go to Yahoo and set up a My Yahoo page and store your bookmarks there. It is web-based, so it doesn't matter what computer you are on or browser you use, you will be able to access the same list of bookmarks. I use a laptop, 2 different desktops and a PDA and several different browsers and I am able to access the exact same list on any piece of hardware. I set this page as my home page in all my browsers and on all my computers. If I use someone else's computer, I simply log in to my Yahoo page and there is all my information, exactly as I left it on my home computer. You can also choose your own content and RS feeds and a whole host of other goodies (I have Photographica set up as an RS feed). Hope this helps.

  • DB, I was wondering if I should do the uninstall, reinstall thing. I never had problems with Firefox before. Then, when I did an update, the bookmarks disappeared. I thought they were just in a file somewhere and I wasn't savvy enough to find them. Then when I had some more built up, they disappeared again, without my doing anything like updating. I will see what I can figure out. Thanks for all the imput. Now if one of you could just hop a jet and come and visit my computer...LOL. Wear a heavy parka though... Thanks everyone.
