I learned in geometry class that shells and sunflowers follow the Fibonacci sequence... and therefore follow the golden ratio.... could someone explain it to me?
Nice picture. Had to look up Fibonacci numbers: ( http://www.mcs.surrey.ac.uk/Personal/R.Knott/Fibonacci/fib.html ) basicly start at 0, and 1 for the next number then add the last two numbers for the next, etc
a great image and yes it's true about numbers and nature....the movie pi (as in the symbol for pi) is great for getting it down with numbers and nature and i just happen to love the movie
Beautiful pic. Don't think this is really the forum for explaining the sequence but if I remember correctly it goes something like this 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, 89 ..... Each # in the sequence is obtained by adding the two prior numbers together. It has been noted that many things in nature will have a number of petals, spirals, chambers, seeds, etc. that come from this sequence. 3 petals, 5 petals, 8 chambers, etc. Just another example, IMHO, of God's amazing creation and our struggle to explain it. Just enjoy it!
