Narrows Covered Bridge

Barb and I went to Turkey Run State Park Sunday. It looked like the sun was going to come out early on but it didn't and we got caught in a thunderstorm before we got back. We were the second people there and the ones ahead scared this Popup Linkturkey vulture away before I could get close... at least I had a chance to get the tele on.
Here's a Popup Linkview from the suspension bridge across Sugar Creek. We were waiting to see where those ahead went before deciding and naturally they were going where we were so we changed plans and walked up the opposite side of the creek.
Not too far from the suspension bridge you can see Popup LinkGoose Rock. I don't know how it got it's name. When I first set this shot up I thought "Dang it! Some jerk thru a blue plastic bag in the creek!" (self-edited for front page) but then it moved.  Here's that small section Popup Linkblown up!  Blue but not a plastic bag. It flew off before we could get closer... our theme for the day.
After Goose Rock, you'd think we'd see some Popup Linkgeese and we did! The one is not walking on water... the water is only a few inches deep there.  We passed a Popup Linksmall waterfall.  We seen an old Popup Linkuprooted tree that was a harbinger of what was to come later on that night for us and others in the Midwest.
We finally made it to the Popup LinkNarrows Covered Bridge. It's located at the East boundary of the park next to a road and bridge that replaced it. Here's another Popup LinkView, that's the old historic Lusk Home on the hill behind it.  Here's a view of the trusses Popup Linkinside and a view of the windows used to let light in I Popup Linkliked the red glow reflected off the side of the bridge.
We walked to the other side and heard a loud growling noise coming from under the new concrete bridge, naturally had to check it out, it was coming from a hole in the rocks under the Popup Linkgrafitti painted on the bridge. We tried to trick it into coming out by both of us getting down then Barb leaving while I stayed but as I was watching the mystery was solved when another pigeon flew in the hole.  Even after knowing it was a pigeon it still sounded like loud growling... must have been the acoustics of the funnel shaped hole. It started to lightning and thunder then and we headed back after putting on the ponchos. All in all, a great day!

Here are some signs we seen in the park.
Popup LinkNo swimming I guess if you drown you still get prosecuted.
Popup LinkExtreme Danger This is on top of Goose Rock.
Popup LinkGoose Rock This is beside Goose Rock (Barb took it). She also took the thumbnail of me.  Remember the camera adds 10 (maybe 20) pounds.

This is another sign we seen back in town... it should say Popup LinkBook Store. You have to admire the guy that went to all the trouble to climb on the roof of the building to paint that. Cuz it was hard work! Just kidding!  This is my usual long-winded production but at least it's not Texas Roadohouse... I do go other places!  If ya stuck this long, Thanks!

I noticed the heron right away, it's fun that you get these suprises sometimes when you look at your photos at the end of the day.

What gross water! Extreme Danger and Inside were the gems of this cool post :)

  • loweho
The water is usually pretty clean, jessa! We've had rain for the last week and flooding has stirred up a lot of mud. On the trail we were on the water had washed out a couple of the bridges.

Enjoyable walk, thanks. In view from suspension bridge where are the steps leading to that are seen leading up the side of the 'small' clif.

That's one of the trails in the park it leads up thru a cleft in the big rock and along the cliffs bordering the creek makes a big loop thru the wood and comes back to the bridge thru some really awesome ravines that usually have water all year long and are fun for the kids... and grownups. When it gets a little greener I'll try to post some pics from along there.
