My daughter and her friend have had me take their pictures at this waterfall the last couple years.  We hike in and they choose where they want to pose and how to pose, I just take the pics.  It is always exciting because alot of the time I am not standing on level ground but precariously on a boulder or the side of the bluffs.  It is shaded and it was with an afternoon sun.

the girls are beautiful, and the area that you took the photos in is splendid, love the backdrops, thanks for sharing!

  • My only suggestion is use some fill flash or a reflector to fill in the shadows on the girls faces. Looks like everyone had fun. That's the important thing.

I liked the first two best. You had a nice setting to work with and beautiful girls.

  • Lovely girls. I agree with jjaloha, you could use fill flash, or try and get either all sun or all shade! Nice placement with background.

  • All terrific shots!! My preference in the first shot "Waterfall" might have been to move them slightly to their left..viewers right...to show a little more of the waterfall. That might have given more balanced light on both faces while showing a little more of the waterfall! The same in "Looking Down"...since they feel the graffiti is part of the atmosphere, having them more off center would show it off a little more...a fill flash would work great here!! Again, terrific shots...the suggestions I make are the things I keep reminding myself to do!

  • Pretty pics.pretty girls in addition to filflash, you might have them tilt heads down or away so you don't shoot up their nose and how about a hug , it looks like they don't like each other with their arms folded .

  • I agree...fil flash would have been useful here, but these are already very fine shots! I guess the only thing I might have done different (beside the flash effect) was in WATERFALL by placing the girls in from of it in such a way that, using a timed exposure effect, the falling water accentuated the girls' faces.

Thanks everyone. The water was cold and they didn't want to get closer and I was on a boulder over the creek, so I couldn't really move to make it look like they were closer. I will have to remember fill flash.

  • If you have another person with you, take one of the folding sunscreens with you . the foil ones. Use it as a reflector to add a little light to them. I don't know what camera you are using but it you can go to about an F4 or so it will blur the background some and draw more attention to the girls.

  • I like the pose, but they all seem too similar...I kept hoping they'd "loosen up" a bit. Still, a great location and great subject matter!

  • You are a good mom and great sport to go on these adventurous shoots . Now, it is fun to take candids and the girls are good subjects, because you can all relax. They,I am sure ,will ham it up and come up with their own ideas and poses. Try to concentrate on sharp focusing and good exposures. This will improve your image quality and overall satisfaction. You are here, among friends and we all shoot because we love to. Your daughters are beautiful, We have been shooting our kids(4) for years, and our grandson, Benjamin, who is three. We are all walking this wonderful path.....smile.....enjoy....and let us all keep walking...Robin.
