The Goldfinch and the Handsome Stranger

While watching the feeder this morning, I was as surprised as this little goldfinch when this beautiful bird stopped in for breakfast! I looked in the book, and (help me out here birders...) think it is a Rose-Breasted Grosbeak.  Which is kind of surprising, because their habitat is a lot further north than the Ozarks.

    Beautiful shot. I did daycare yrs ago and had a rose breasted grosbeak land on my feeder. I was making lunch for the kids. They came running in one little girl crying saying "There's a hurted birdy on the feeder. HURRY! Come look!" It was funny. Not the kids being scared. But the reaction!!

    And doesn't it look like that goldfinch is stretched out just as tall and big as he can be against the size of the intruder! He stood his ground.... it was just too funny! Update... the grosbeak is back this evening... I wonder if he will hang around a while?

    Saw my first Rose breasted Grosbeaks of the season this week. The goldfinch's have been around for several weeks now.Will try to shoot a few shots myself. You managed to catch this great shot. Beautiful Post
