Yesterday I posted pictures from the main section of Binder Park Zoo in Battle Creek. That part of the zoo was typical of what you would expect to see of a small town zoo. The 'Wild Africa' section is spectacular though.
You prepare to visit Wild Africa by passing through the
Avenue of Flags.
Here you will find the national flag of every country in Africa, along with an
informative sign with the country name & location in Africa. At the end of the avenue you have to make a choice - you can take a free 5 minute tram ride to this part of the zoo, or hike uphill for 15 minutes. I'll let you guess which I chose.
When I arrived at the 'Wild Africa compound 5 minutes later (that was a hint!) I was treated to a wide open
view of several African animals grazing together. There were herds of both giraffes & zebras, as well as more species of animals than you see here. As I hiked around the trail that circles this field, here are some of the other animals I saw.
If you're ever in the Battle Creek area you should definately plan a visit to the Binder Park Zoo, if only to go to Wild Africa. Oh, I almost forgot,
here's one for Cherish!
