Ok, I admit I'm the one posting all the low quality shots.  I happened to be lucky to travel around a lot for the past 3 years, and Europe is such a great place to take photos as everything is so different there.  Here are some more of them.  Don't look if you crave for sharp images.

Taken from the inside of a fortress in Portugal, you can see the Popup Linkcastle wall and trenches.

A Popup Linkfortress situated on the south coast of Portugal.

The building in the background is the famous Popup LinkPalace Versailles.

This might look like a boring building, but it's the Popup Linkfirst slave market in Europe.  Here is the trivia question for you, anyone knows where this is?

Finally, a structure like this will always Popup Linkstand the test of time.

Having never been to Europe, these are interesting to me. I, too, would like to see the thumb larger. As far as the photographic quality of the shots.....are they film shots that you have scanned? Sometimes that has an effect on the shots......just a thought......

  • I think there is a great difference in just taking vacation photos and taking good photos when you are on vacation. Sorry but these are just so, so. I would recommend looking for something that shapes the photo into telling us something as to I was just there.

KayN, no, these aren't scanned pictures. My camera is in fact a camcorder that takes pictures at only about 2 MP, so that's why they are full of dots when you open it up. Sorry they're in such low quality but I can't seem to do anything about that. ShadesofBlueArt, I don't really get what you mean, can you tell me more specific on how to show that and tell more something as to I was just there?

  • Gnome, what I mean if you are just taking photos of structures, finding the right angle or right light or the uniqueness of the subject, being it building, people or lets say in your Versailles photo. You could have gotten closer to the statue in the corner and either used DOF (depth of field) to give either the palace or the statue more detail. Here was an example on a trip to italy. example example2 trip to Mexico Check out the post by AnyMooseHero on the front page titled Italy and you will see what I mean. No offense, but I did not get a sense of the photos other than plain shots of structures. Your photo of Chimney with nest was more to my liking.

Thank you ShadesofBlueArt, that is some very interesting feature that I've never heard of until now. The examples you provided are definitely intriguing, and had some special effect. I couldn't quite see it int he example2 as well as the first one, but I will probably see better someday as to what that really is. Is that feature (DOF) provided in the camera, or in Photoshop, or is that just a term of the technique? Sorry, I have just started so my vocabularies for photography is very very limited. If it's a feature in the camera, most likely I won't have that option. Let me know so I can learn. Thank you.

  • When a lens focuses on a subject at a distance, all subjects at that distance are sharply focused. Subjects that are not at the same distance are out of focus and theoretically are not sharp. However, since human eyes cannot distinguish very small degree of unsharpness, some subjects that are in front of and behind the sharply focused subjects can still appear sharp. The zone of acceptable sharpness is referred to as the depth of field. Thus, increasing the depth of field increases the sharpness of an image. We can use smaller apertures for increasing the depth of field. The camera you use probably does not have this feature built in as 35mm and digital do if you can focus the lens which is where you get your DOF. Any camera which does not allow focus will only take a clear forground, middle and background as one. hope this helps.
