Popup Linkthe  Popup Linkend

We went fishing this afternoon, and I was just walking around and spotted Popup Linkthis Popup Linkfella.  Anybody got a clue what kind he is?  He was rather large and didn't scurry away when I was taking his pic.....he was kinda strange looking, though.....thanks in advance for helping me.......

Hope y'all enjoy!

Is it a leather back turtle? I think so but my son who would know for sure isn't home right now. "The" is a super shot. Also like end too....

  • I don't know what kind of turtle that is Kay, but I sure wouldn't stick my finger anywhere near his pointed snout! I bet he would hang on till it thundered! Loved "the" shot, great for the theme.

  • It's probbably a leather back Turtle. It is definatly a turtle or at least a reptile. Can't be certain because the head is half burried.

It is a soft shelled turtle. They do bite. My son was holding one so I could take his pic and it stuck its neck way out and about got him. I wish I wouldn't have jumped when it happened. It would have been a funny shot. :0)

That is what they call them around here. I think it is because the shell is like a thick leather feeling. I looked up leather back and saw that it is a sea turtle. These ones are in fresh water.

I think it's an Eastern Spiny softshell turtle, probably a female, I think the males have little dark donut-shaped circles over the back. There's a smooth variety also that doesn't have the little spine on the front of the shell. We used to catch them while fishing in the river they called them pancake turtles.
