I went out the other day and tried shooting RAW. I am limited to about 23 pics right now as I only have a 256MB CF card. But it is enough to get the idea of shooting RAW. I find RAW provides MUCH better control and the best part is the original stays that way...as an original.

  • Nice shots. If you want to check out a good free RAW converter that will let you work in batches take a look at Raw Shooter. I'm using the Pro version but the basic does a heck of a job. http://www.pixmantec.com/products/rawshooter_essentials.asp

  • Okay. I must ask. What is this RAW thing you guys keep talking about? I've never heard of it. I feel left out. Help! Hehe. :) Nice shots, by the way.... :)

  • RAW is a file format...Canon calls it RAW..Nikon calls it NEF...think of a RAW file as a film negative. JPEG is what is called a lossy file..the computer compresses the image by discarding redundant data...in a RAW file NOTHING is discarded, hence the large file size, but you retain ALL of the original information. Not all cameras have the ability to shoot RAW..check your manual....most newer point and shoots are also adding the feature...it really is worth checking into and using RAW files...I'll never go back to JPEG again...I also save my adjusted images in TIFF....another uncompressed format.

  • Thanks to all for your comments on this and the last postings...I have been so busy set up our NEW photo department at school. Can't wait for the fall semester to start so i can use our new and improved studio space and darkroom. tetede......I looked at your stuff...great work...I also see you use an AE1..I have 2 AE1 Programs in addition to a Canon 20D...the raw files are for digital so right now it is not an issue for you. Take care all and I'll be checking in from time to time.
