Bird On A String

Remember Miss November? She is one of the Anna's that showed up last winter and stuck around. I guess she has kicked the kids out of the house. Both her and her mate are back in the yard and spending a lot of time here.

Here she is  Popup Linksitting on a string that holds up a bunch of wild flowers so they won't fall over. She sits there for hours and watches her flowers and favorite feeder.

I have new appreciation for how difficult it must be to shoot these little critters. I have a feeder outside my office window and the little green-backed ones eat all day. And my little POS camera is useless where they're concerned.

They can be tough even with the big guns but they are so much fun. Even if they are being shy and I can't get a shot I just love sitting and watching them.

Penny, Last fall all the Rufous Hummingbirds left for Mexico at their normal time. I gave it two weeks and took down the feeders the middle of September. The beginning of November I was talking to a neighbor that is a meter reader and she told me she had seen a hummingbird while walking her route. I came home and put one small single port feeder back out. On November 28th in a cold rain storm I looked out the window and this girl was at my feeder. She has been around ever sense. She has some markings and mannerisms that let me tell her from the others as does her male partner. Anyway... she showed up in November and kept my winter much brighter. She got the name Miss November.

I am not a big bird fan (indeed, I usually avoid them) but I love the shots of hummingbirds and she looks like a little queen. Inspiration.

Classy you missed what I was joking about. I was talking about how you rigged the string up on your camera....I remember the Miss November story. I have been following it. I love your shots of her and all the others of the hummingbirds you have taken. I was just picking on you. :0)

Remember Penny, I can tape the stick to the lens. Keeping the string that stiff.... I'm not even going to go there ;-)
