When you go on the back roads in our area you know you are in Amish country.  You can tell that the Amish have been hard at work.  The fields have a very distinct look.  There are rows and rows of Popup LinkHPopup LinkAPopup LinkYPopup LinkSPopup LinkTPopup LinkAPopup LinkCPopup LinkKPopup LinkS.  Some of these shots were taken in morning light and some in the evening light.  They were also taken in different fields.  It is actually not hay it is wheat.  So I'm not sure why they call them hay stacks.

I like the way you took these shots, Penny! They kinda look like huts.......do the Amish hand bind them? It looks like they do.

  • These are gorgeous Penny. I love the last one--it looks like little odd people lined up in the field. Do they not call those fodder shocks there?

They have horse drawn machines that bind them. They do the stacking. Usually very neatly. But I did find one field that I actually thought "they did a sloppy job". It is really neat to see. Some of the fields are huge. It is really a contrast to all the surrounding green. Smally I am not really sure I have just heard them called hay stacks. This is a shot of the messy looking field

  • Shocking. That's what they call it in my area when they stack like this. They do it with corn also. Excellent set.

love the color and clarity,,,I guess since they put hay in stacks, the Amish don't have bales of fun doing this.

Nice shots, Penny, what a variety of shots to choose from. I think number 7 & 8 or C & K are my favorites. I like the way the eye travels across the picture. I would love a picture of some of the Amish working to make a field look like this.
