What Is Lost...

I cannot resist following a path- especially when it seems to Popup Linklead to nowhere- because in my explorations I have found that every road exists for a reason, no matter how hidden...

This abandoned old house was at the end of that road, Popup Linkfrozen in time and lost in the deep dark pine barrens of New Jersey. One dark window seemed like Popup Linkthe heart of the house now stilled & unbeating. Paint peeled from the Popup Linkporch columns... while birds made their nests along the Popup Linkpeaked lines of the upper stories...

I could only wonder at the Popup Linksecrets this place would hold forever.

Popup LinkThe green that was once cheerful decorated jagged edges... and Popup Linkthe shadows & the trees conspired to play tricks on my eyes. After a brief connection with something lost, the sun began it's Popup Linkdescent behind corners & window panes and stole my light.

As I retreated from the scene, Popup Linkthe dying sun gave me a final brilliant display, fire through the tangled foliage that hid this forgotten place.

(I tried to go back for more later but the place was completely gone, demolished, these photos left behind to testify to it's forgotten presence. I do have more shots & background story on this find on the following page, for those interested: http://www.lostdestinations.com/treehse.htm)

Very interesting post and pictures. Wim and I were just talking today about how we, in this country, so often walk away from places and let them go to disrepair. Looks like that is what happened in this place.

The evening sun gave all these shots a warm glow of the life that had left long ago. Nice set.

I really loved this set for a couple reasons..First,like happyman said the evening sun gave this set a nice warm almost nostalgic feel. And we have SO many of these abandoned farm houses here in north iowa. I often comment that if only walls could talk I for one would love to sit and listen! Great set heather!

i love your writing shady, i'm always wrapped up with anticipation when i read your work. you are an artist in so many ways:) i expect you to write a novel one day- it's in your plans i hope. descent behind corners & window panes is my fave, i felt what it would be like to be in the corner inside the house... the lighting coming through both windows like that makes it all the more mysterious to me for some reason.

Several really excellent shots there. I liked the chimney end of the house showing the 3rd story, with the late day sun.

Great set, Shady! Liked frozen, porch column, and descent best! Great story! The windows like eyes on either side of the chimney reminds me of the Amityville horror!

I love the feel in peaked lines, secrets & descent! Sad, lonely & a bit spooky. The last shot has a sad/scary feel to it also. Another fantastic little journey!

lovely old house. I am drawn to old houses too, wondering who lived in them and what their lives were like.

Cool house, the sun through the window shot is my pick for a great shot here as it gives so much texture and feel.
