Challenged

I love black and white photos. I just don't shoot or process them very well. This weekend I spent some time really working toward making them better.

What do you think? I really do want your advice and opinion.

They were ok in the large department. I'm not totally awake yet, so it is a good thing. I absolutely love the guitar!! You are doing much better with b&w than i am. Great Job, be proud and keep it up.

The guitar shot is wonderful, the DOF has interest, contrast is good, nice lighting, I think it is great! Will is a good subject, no distraction in the background, nice job on both of his shots! The horse is a good subject with nice DOF. I think you did great on these, your extra effort shows through!

I really like the guitar shot. The DOF is great and the focus too. I really like the horse shot too. But the white down the horses nose is kind of blown out. It isn't bad but that is a big thing to watch in B&W. You want your blacks black and your whites white. But not too white. There is a fine line. Not to mention the differences in monitors can make a big difference too.

Thought guitar and Buck were fantastic shots--composition is outstanding. The two Will shots seemed a little flat but I liked the composition on both.

Guitar, will2 and buck are my faves (esp. guitar) But will 1 seemed too bright to me. I only wish I could control B&W as well as you do!

The first shot of Will seemed a little large for my laptop.....could just be me, so maybe someone can pitch jn and get me a larger screen....come on...please. The guitar shot was my fave.....good set....that's what I think.

I think the white on the nose isn't that bad, considering you do have gray in your sky. Now if the sky were blown out as well, I think the image would falter a bit. Otherwise, I love the contrasts in it and the composition is wonderful. Great job, peach!

The comp and focal point in guitar is great. Other shots are good too, but guitar is my fav.

I didn't care for the first Will, to light/soft, much better in the second on my monitor. I'm wishing for Buck to be on the left side not the right, it's just the way my visiual works! the shot is nice and clear, beautiful animal! Birdie

This is a really nice set. I especially love buck. What a beautiful composition and you got the focus right on the eyes. That was going to be my suggestion on the Will shots...to get the focus on his eyes. The eyes are a bit soft on the Will shots. The focus point appears to me to be on his forehead.

I have looked at these a couple of times and keep going back to the hands...it is my favorite....you know me, cannot tell where the focus is on most things...and I also really like Will .....

Guitar is wonderful. Composition and focal point are perfect. Buck is the standout. I really, really like the composition on that one. Very well done. The other two are olay, but seem a bit too light. Maybe darken them a little bit?

Thanks everyone for the comments. I really appreciate them. The first Will shot is meant to be light. I really wanted a high key kinda feel to it. The focus does bother me too. I will try again on that one and Will2. The focus is a little off and I would like to see just a little more in the bottom right and upper left corners.
