HDR Play and a few from the zoo.

One advantage of the setting the clocks back is that Jaryd and I don't have to wait for the sun to come up.  We can take off on the roadtrips as soon as we drop Barb off at work.  These are all HDR images, I've been playing with that for a while when I have a subject that warrants it and occasionally just to see what it does for a more normal range image like the country road below.  I try to get an image that looks to me like the actual scene did but you can go way past that and get surreal images if that's your fancy.  These are all three image, aperture priority, +-2 stop, auto exposure bracketed shots generated in Photomatix Pro. Normally, they would also be from a tripod but since this was a road trip, no leaving the car, so propped on the side window was as close as I could get.  At this size, it's hard to see any alignment problems.  These were all taken Friday morning at different times.

Brick Barn
Country Road

I know I said my last post was the last of the zoo pics but I lied. Here are a few more.  These are not HDR.
Don't mess with me!
Even the king needs rest.
Can ya see me now?

Comments and criticism are best served cold.  What's your thoughts on HDR, love it, hate it, don't care, don't know what it is?  I know the activity here drops off on the weekend but what are your thoughts?

HDR...Love It!!!! Those are amazing!!!! The clarity & colors are so perfectly pronounced and the depth is always exaggerated in a great way! Love the zoo shots, post as many as you want!

Love the HDR barns although the clouds are this close to being too much and overpowering the shot. The country road is nice but I don't see any special benefit from the HDR. Zoo shots are well done as well. Hmmm. I must be coming down with something. I've been nice to Lo.

Yep, like the barn shots. All for that matter.

Your right, Smalls, (I must be coming down with something too) it wasn't needed for that shot I probably could have opened up the shadows in Lightroom just as well but I was playing.

HDR... I think HDR is like a number of filters and such in any editing program. It can be used to come up with an image equal to what the person actually saw or used to make what I call an abstract image. If it's not what I saw it's abstract. The eye sees so many more ranges of color and light to dark than any camera, film or digital, can see. HDR can help to take care of that problem. Most on here know that it's very seldom I go for the abstract look. On the other hand I want you to see what I saw. It's kind of a to each his own thing.

I really, really like the white barn.

    - f8 and be there...

Nice series, Low. I think HDR is useful when you really want an image and the light's not right, but I use it infrequently. That sunrise in Brick Barn isn't too shabby!

Well. you all ready know I am all over HDR myself... so glad to see somebody else having fun with it too! Brick Barn is outstanding! And country road proves that HDR doesn't have to be oversaturated or over the top... I use Photomatix Pro too, and I really like having fun with it....

Most HDRs to me look liked they've been worked and are not a natural image. These are pretty good though, luv the first barn. Great zoo shootin too Buddy, went back to your other posts to catch up.

I think your HDR's are fabulous. I just started playing around with them myself. I've been a photographer for years, and my heart just isn't in digital like it was in film. I think HDR's when not overworked take on that film quality that digital was missing. :)
