I grow strange things. Beside photography, it's my other passion. I was messing around with my old Tamron macro lens on my D70 this morning and myNepenthes Ventricosa seemed like the perfect subject.

Nice composition & colour on this macro. Might look good with some water sprayed on it in a fine mist? Nice shot!

"Nepenthes" is the name of a genus of tropical pitcher plants originating primarily in Asia. This particular species, "Ventricosa", is considered to be one of the easier to grow but to me it's no less fascinating than any of the more difficult plants. I've grown many insectivorous plants (bug eaters) with varying degrees of success but not even the Venus Fly Trap captures my imagination like the beauty of the tropical pitcher plants. I'm glad you all like the pic!

  • Stupendous shot. So nice to see a plant that I have not ever seen before--right down to the veins and lip ridges. Good work.

  • Wow, that is a really cool looking plant. Great colors and nice sharpness. I think water drops would really accentuate the plant. Maybe even overflow the "pitcher" part with water. Just plain ole interesting.
