I moved back to South Korea in September and I've been trying to get some decent pictures of this place.  I think the color looks bad in some of these but I don't know what to do to fix it.  Suggestions?  I'm just using a Sony Cybershot 3.2 that I bought back in 2003.  All help is appreciated!

Street Vendor
Masks

This one was taken at the Korean War Museum in Seoul.  It represents brothers, one North Korean & one South Korean, meeting on the battle field.  I thought it was pretty sad.  Brothers >
I was taking pictures as my boyfriend was skipping rocks.  I think this looks like an alligator.  Maybe it's just me...Water gator

  • Nice compositions,Temple My sugestion is to back up and get it all or move in and focus on one aspect of the piece. Next I couldn't find your camera but I'm thinking If you are serious about photography an upgrade is in order. Have fun and learn all you can.

  • Problem is... During the high sun hours blue light is at its peak for overwhelming the warmer colors, early in the morning or later in the evening will produce a better capture of warmer colors. If you want more color now, a slight nudge increasing the "saturation" can be accomplished in Photo Shop or most any poto editing software. Hope that helps, good luck with your experimentation. BTW, nice pictures!

It doesn't matter what kind of camera you have it is how you use it. Read your manual and learn your settings. There are people here who have point and shoots and blow pics away that are taken with expensive equipment. If you are serious though an upgrade isn't a bad idea. You didn't do too bad on the shots. But the bright mid-day light is hard to shoot in. It makes the shots look blown out.

The beach and the waterway are really well-composed shots. They could benefit from a little increase in saturation, to make the colors a bit more vibrant. The temple is also a good one, but it also needs a bit more color. I've been to Seoul a few times and I've seen the temples there and they are beautifully colored. But I also know that with all the smog and haze in the air in Asia, it's tough to get decent landscape images, no matter what time of day it is, because the skies are always just white or gray and the atmosphere is quite hazy, especially during the summer months. Korea is a beautiful country. Try downloading Picasa - it's free image editing software that's easy to use and will let you make basic edits to your photos (stuff like increasing saturation, contrast, lightness, darkness, cropping etc.) It will definitely let you improve your already-good images.

I found your shot of "Brothers" deeply touching. Having served with the 1st Marine Division in Korea (1951/1952), the statue does indeed emphasize the sadness of that part of Korea's history. Ditto what Penny said, equipment is important, but it only shoots what you see and compose. Like the old song, ". . . it ain't what you do, it's the way that you do it. . . ."
