We decided to head down to Aruba for my birthday 2 weeks ago. Just getting a chance to upload photos and stuff. Here are the highlights of the photos from above and below the water. As always, there are more on my website.
Ouch, has it really been 11 months since I posted last? I've been a little un-inspired since I moved. Oh well, let's hope for some more photos now that spring has arrived.
Great shots. I imagine that you had a wonderful time! What a nice way to spend your Bday! Love the lighthouse and fish shots are all awesome...oh, and so is the Iguana! Nice job!
There were tons of iguanas and geckos at our hotel. Every afternoon we'd have about 10 iguanas between 2-6' long hanging out around the beach and the pool. Someday my wife and I will probably get an iguana as a pet, but we've got to stop moving around the country first.
They're great pets KWS. My family had one back in the early 90s, named Cactus Jack. He was the best pet ever We even had a leash to walk him outside, but when the icestorm hit in '93 it knocked out the power for several days and the cold was too much for the little guy. My dad did everything he could to keep him warm, including wrapping him in a blanket and holding him like a baby bundled up.
That's right, I'm more than a pretty face in the forums. ;) If you're really good to me, I may even post for the current theme too. Got some great shots to choose from here.
Great shots all Aaron. so how did you get inspired. the girl is so pretty but.... that was not all..I totaly dig the eel. Okay is it the girl? the settign was totally cool; never have been to the Caribbe;. perhaps that is it! what ever glad you posted. okay not now I'm alone here.... in 'neither land. ho hum!!!
Aruba is such an easy place to find inspiration. It's such a pretty, friendly island with such an amazing contrast of Caribbean charm and desert landscapes. Nice to just relax in such a fun place, it was easy enough take pictures of it. The underwater shots were a bit more challenging, the sealife was great but it was spawning season on the reefs and the water was literally swimming with eggs and baby fish. Once I viewed most of those shots at full resolution, the were tossed. You can see just how busy the water was in some of the other shots. Most of those, if they're not deleted immediately, rarely make it off my hard drive and the few that I never want to post anywhere but my own site.
Excellent, Aaron, you should post more often. I have a question... on the the last three (I think) underwater shots the lighting was real natural... were they in shallower water or were they corrected? Just curious, my daughter has an underwater pouch for her xti but I have no desire to be in the ocean. I look too much like sea lion or manatee! 8o) Great slideshow.
I was actually planning on doing a challenge post with this. Those last 3 shots were in 25'-50' of water, so not exactly shallow. Even on the shallower photos though, anything more than 5' will be very blue (water, of course, absorbs red light first so you get primarily blues and greens). There's a photoshop action on Adobe's website that Tom2002 here clued me in on that's a must for anyone doing underwater photography. Very simple, you load your image, run the action and poof, the image looks just like it did underwater by adding the red back in. I'm far too ignorant in photoshop to pretend to understand the steps in adjusting the colors myself, but I've been quite happy with the action. Maybe tonight I'll post a few before and after shots.
I certainly hope you get the chance to post more frequently. I really enjoyed viewing these. Whatever you were doing besides taking photos didn't make you rusty as a photographer!
