Wow! It has truly been a long time since my last post! Oh, how I miss the photography. So, I'm back! ^^

Okay, I must explain my experimenting...
Portraits really haven't been "my thing." I preferred taking shots of everything else, so I've experimented with portraits recently. So, I
photographed my best friend...

I liked the two taken on the Garden Bench. Good start on portraits - they are not easy.

  • Very nice first attempt. All I have to say is get her to relax. She looks tense in most of the shots. I'm not an expert on portraits, and I don't like doing them either, but that's what I noticed about them. You're b&w's have great contrasts and you're doing a good job with lighting. Keep experimenting and keep showing us the results. The best way to learn is trial and error :-D

  • Shoot. Shoot. Shoot. For each pose, I generally take about 5-6 photos. I generally get around 400 shots in 30 minutes. Cracking jokes keeps the person at ease, too. Get used to looking for harsh shadows or blown-out images (too dark or too light areas. On the face especially.) I really like how you played with the angles. My biggest problem is looking for hair or messed up lipstick and all the little details. I'm hoping to get control over that soon. You have some wonderful ideas. The more you practice, the more comfortable you get. For the first year I had my camera, I took pics of friends for free. I now charge for photos. AND I'm still nervous when I get started. You are going to do great!
