While I enjoy getting close and photographing detail, sometimes only a stand-back-and-take-in-the-whole-scene approach works to capture the feeling of a place.  Here are some of the shots I took using the wide end of the lens.

  • Very nice. Wide is good too. Actually for landscape I'm more of a wide person. I went to a seminar last year and one of the instructors was George Lepp. He had an interesting take on the wide/tele use. In your wide shots you still have a main subject. Something you are drawing the viewer in to. He says start wide and take a number of shots working your way into the main subject. It can make for an interesting series.

  • Wilk, these are great...you are right about the use of wide angle and being able to capture the 'size' of fell of the area. Have enjoyed your slides shows of these big 'formations'

These shots remind me of an old western where they are lost and know they are going to find civilization over then next mountain. Then they come of it and see the vast open space like these shots. Great shooting. I hope you understood what I was rambling about.... ;0)

Penny, the next place we visited was Monument Valley -- the place where John Ford filmed a huge number of John Wayne and other westerns. . . those are on my "to do" list.
