Monument Valley is a Navajo park in the Four Corners area.  The access is in Arizona but the park itself is in New Mexico.  A number of westerns were filmed here.  I was impressed with the stark beauty of the landscape.

Beautiful shots Wilk. Your B/W shots are always so clear, but I did miss the red rocks when I looked at these huge rocks. I was there many years ago with a missionary friend of my parents who worked with the Navajo people. This valley reminds me of that trip.

I enjoyed them all, especially liked the contrast in the clouds. In the 3rd one, I liked where the shadow of the stone appears to make the stone float. The 1st one is exceptional.

very, very nice. How did you get the skies so dark? Red filter, or something else?

  • Ok... now you've gone and done it.... Monument Valley is the number one place on my list of places to see before I die, and this just nailed it. I have about three picture of the "Mitten's" hanging in my house, and your second shot, the perspective is just a litle farther to the right than Ansel's but looks just as fantastic! Well Done Wilk!

Fuzzy -- When photographica interviewed Noah Grey he described his workflow with black and white. Essentially he startes with a black canvas and paints the photo using the cloning tool onto the canvas. He said he doesn't add anything not in the photo but often leaves stuff out. That's the method I used for these. Andrea -- yep ordered them from Amazon for the days I planned to be there. BSV -- you'll love the whole area. All -- thanks.
