Salt Marsh: Galveston Island

Here are a few more photos from the stormy day last week when I visited Galveston. Part of the island is a wetland preserve. These were all taken at 28mm, in b/w with an infrared filter.

I'd like to give an interim thanks to the many of you who have already participated in the "Go Wide" challenge; I like what I see and I'm looking forward to what you come up with this week.

I'm always amazed by your contrasts and tones. However, I like 3 & 5 better compositionally. The areas of grass toward the front help even out the picture a little better, IHMO. And that's not saying the others aren't good, they're all fantastic in their own way :-D

All are excellent, Bill, #4 is my favorite just cause it seems darker and more foreboding and that fits my mood tonight. All are exceptional.

I am amazed at how you were able to shoot the same "subject" from different angles and come up with completely different, striking photos. Usually when I visit a spot like this all my "landscapes" end up looking relatively the same. The fifth one is definitely my favorite.

I have been going crazy trying to open this slideshow. I love the thumb, and your work is always so marvelous! I will get to see them eventually, I suppose, but it is agony to have to wait. So, this week you have been my lesson in patience.

Sure enjoyed the Galveston views, Wilk, many fond memories. Met my wife there in 1949 where she was a new nurse at John Sealy Hospital (U Tex), and she had recently worked around the clock in caring for the injured in the Texas City explosions. We were married in 1951 and although retired, she returned to duty big time when I broke my neck in February of this year. Thanks to her I'm doing well and we look forward to our frequent visits to Galveston where old friends still reside. She (Lea) will love your photos when I show them to her later today.
