Gramma's Home

By cmcnaught written 9/2/07 7:28 PM, published 9/3/07 9:23 AM

Lord, I'm ready

“I’m slowing down”
She would say in an apologetic tone
As if her life-speed were an inconvenience
For those around her: Children, grand children, great grand children
As if we were inconvenienced by the
Ever closer end of her earth journey

“I’m getting slower everyday”
Was she asking us to slow down?
To match her speed?
While we have the choice, the option of fast versus slow?
Full speed ahead for us
Or was she trying to tell us what we could
Look forward to at the end of our journeys?

When I am your age Gramma,
I hope I will be able to match your speed
Your love
Your commitment to family
And God
Your attitude
Your servanthood
When I am your age Gramma,
I hope I will be able to slow down
To enjoy my last days on earth
To prepare for my passage to the
New earth, the new life
Life in Heaven, with the
Patient, compassionate master
Who has led you on your journey

It’s okay to slow down. Save your energy Gramma.
You will need it for that final leg of your journey
Your path is one you must take at your speed
God’s speed
When you see his face
You will run, faster than you have ever run
And jump, higher than you have ever jumped
Into his arms
Hands clasped behind his neck
Like a child holding onto a father
His arms will encircle you
Fingers laced to hold you
As he swings you like a
Father swinging a child

Good bye Gramma, Great Gramma, Mom, Mother, Friend

Welcome home, my child,
My Good and faithful servant
I’ve been waiting for you.

Welcome home Nema.

Very powerful post. its always hard to say goodbye to someone who has made such a positive impact. The thing I tell myself, when someone passes, is that they're in peace now and they can't hurt anymore. They have all their energy back and are able to do all the things they loved and weren't able to do as well before. They're all around us. Take care my friend, Jaime

Beautifully stated, now she will be singing praises!!

What a wonderful legacy she has left behind her as evidenced by your words. I can feel your pain and your joy in knowing that she possesses the peace that passes understanding.

When I saw this, my heart sank...I am so sorry for your family's loss. So close to her 100'th birthday celebration you all were looking forward to so much..... God has his own plan for her on that special day, and I know you will be surrounded by her love she leaves for all of you. Your post is a beautiful tribute to a special lady.

Such a powerful post. I have heard my Gramma say "She is ready". It is hard to take. But she is still quite healthy and it makes her angry. She had a stroke and can't do the things she wants to so she doesn't like that. I am so sorry for your loss. The shot is beautiful. The story is a familiar one.

what joy for her...she's now out of this worlds decay and pain.. no more sarrow...just peace and joy. Be happy for her, she had (I'm sure) a full and wonderful life....and she must have been a spreader of love. Wonderful Post. And that is a very moving shot.

I am facing that same thing and hope that my grandfather visits home soon. To visit his wife that left us almost 20 years ago and a majority of his family (brothers and sisters are now gone). He too suffered a major stroke and now is too weak to eat or care much to continue. We are several states away and although most want to see him stay, I personally wish to say, "until later" when our spirits will see each other again. He is my hero, my mentor, and my father (grandfather by society standards). I wish him peace... He is just five days from his 92nd birthday, and the Dr's say a heart of an ox, but the rest of his body is going. I just wish him peace. I wish you peace and condolences to your and your family. Bright blessings....

You've touched us all by your eloquent words, and I KNOW your Grandmother is smiling with pride and love for her family and friends to give her such a joyous "send off"!

The photo and the story tug at heartstrings. My thoughts and my prayers are with you and your family. Gramma, I'm sure is smiling down at you and waiting for that someday when you will be together again.

Thank you everyone. I'm sure gramma would be completely embarrassed to know that everyone is making such a fuss. She was always worried about being a burden to us. "You do too much for me." I appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

I am greatly moved by your heart and words of your blessed Gramma. Your image reflects her soul and tired spirit. She is at peace now and will send you healing love and such fond memories. Celebrate her life every day.

  • trio55
I'm sure that your Gramma would be very proud of the words you've written. Beautiful photo of her. May God be with you and your family in these sad times.

A beautiful tribute to Gramma, she has left you a precious legacy. What a way to celebrate her 100th ... by rejoicing that she is home and in His presence.

  • RobinG
We are never ready for them to leave. It was heard for me when my grandparents said they wanted to go, but when they did, I knew they were happy. Wonderful tribute, she'll always be in your heart and memories. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family. :o)

  • Pablo57
Beautiful tribute in prose and photos. Returning to the spiritual world, from hence we came. There are so many quotations like that one, which I hang on to, but in the final analysis, we are never prepared for the passing of a loved one.

  • KayN
Awesome tribute to what I'm sure was a very fine woman. I pray God's comforting arms will embrace your entire family through all the difficult times, and I pray for peace in your hearts as you come to realize that Gramma's in a much better place than we are........... Blessings to all y'all.............

Beautiful words.....sorry for your loss....it hurts to let go of a loved one or close friend; am getting from your words that Gram was ready to go to a much better place than where she was on this earth.....Hang on to those Precious Memories.

    - Blessings
