Equestrian Equilibrium ... Challenge: Focus & Composition

By digitalphotodude written 1/1/08 8:53 AM, published 1/1/08 8:53 AM

Staying on a horse is not a problem when conditions are ideal. Rarely are conditions ideal. On a horse trail not far from Wellsboro, PA we discovered that horses like to kick, roll in the creek, run off when you step one foot into the stirrup, go bronco like they are in the rodeo. And sometimes, you get an amazingly sweet spirited horse that just wants nothing more than contact between horse and rider. I found several not far from my home that became curious and actually too close to photograph at one point that had that kind of spirit.

Portrait is nice for its clarity. The rest are pretty soft. Pretty group!

Makes me miss my horses! I could almost smell them and I LOVE that soft spot on their nose where they like to be kissed. =) Good shots. Only one suggestion, but it probably would have affected your 'subjects'. Fill flash might have been useful on Horse Portrait 2. (Of course, that might have spooked them, so I understand why you might not have used it.)

    - Enjoy the journey....
