A little over a year ago, I was hired to take engagement photos and wedding shots for a friend's daughter.

Here's one example.

It was very bright. I wanted to do it later in the day, but they couldn't make that, so we had to work with what we had. Plus, I didn't have any real equipment. Just my new Canon Rebel with the kit lens. No reflectors, additional lenses, nothing. Which, made the WEDDING even more of a challenge.

  • Calepo, we did a wedding last summer with kit lenses. But we were lucky, 3:30 in the afternoon in the mountains. They came out beautiful! Keep it up! Some are more challenging than others. Practice makes perfect. :)

It's especially challenging when the church won't allow a flash during the ceremony which happened at the two weddings that I've done so far. For the last wedding, my tripod and new Expodisk came in handy. I was able to ensure that the white balance was correct and leave the shutter open a bit longer to get the right amount of light. Weddings are so STRESSFUL! =)

  • Beautiful couple. I think a lot of pastors don't want the service interrupted with the flash and it is terribly distracting. Many will allow you to repose and stage couples after the service using flash, or even allow video cameras stationed throughout the sanctuary. An important part of wedding photography is building rapport with the pastor long before the wedding ceremony.

Yes, I met with the clergy days before and we discussed all of the 'requirements'. In fact, at the last wedding, the pastor and his wife were celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary, so I took their portrait, too. It came out great and it was an honor. Very nice couple.

  • Hey! Some people just have to post two within the the blackout period, don't they! And only seconds apart! Even. How in the world did that happen? Once it's posted it's gone. Weird that it happend, but the couple make a nice shot even in strong light. You do good.
