I pass by this barn everytime I go into town.  It's on a little country road not more than 3 miles from my house.  Got bored on my off day last friday and I couldn't find anything around my house (besides my cats) to take pictures of.  I loaded my camera in the car with me, pulled on a scarf and some gloves and took a drive.  Here's the results.

red barn with less sky
red barn 3
red barn 4
red barn 5

I like the "with less sky" image the best, I think. The angle you're shooting from and the amount of foreground makes the crumbling barn look quite dramatic.

    - f8 and be there...

Very nice shots. These huge old structures just aren't used much anymore and are falling down everywhere. It's a shame but I guess that's called progress. They do make great subjects for photographers, though. :)

Less sky is my favorite too. Makes me wonder what I may be missing close to home, fantastic set.

  • Less sky seems to add more to the picture... Althought the other pics give detail to the old wood and are good, it just leaves something missing... the ground! lol But hey, who am I? I've never been to "Photography School" so don't listen to me.

    - go take some pictures you

Well, I'm gonna be different..........I'm a sucker for a blue sky and the contrast between that and the red barn is great! I'm likin' the first shot best.

  • Barn 3 and 4 are the ones I like. You've thought outside the box here instead of just shooting a barn.

  • First of all, I love old barns and you have a good one here. I like one and two. (here's the "but") In my personal uneducated opinion. And that is all it is, an opinion, I would have zoomed in more, if it were possible, or cropped out the silos and a little of the forground in 2. Unfortunatly that sort of centers the barn. I also would have taken the white top off that fence post, my eye keeps going there. Wow, that sure puts me at odds with everyone else here. Oh well, like photodude, I never went to camera school so what do I know.

    - So shoot already!!

  • I think I did have a shot like that (or I know I considred it, whether I tripped the shutter I honestly can't remember). When I get home, I'll check my images and see. If I do, I'll upload it and throw in in a comment. But I remember thinking about that, but I was struggling with it being in the center of the image so that's why I can't remember if I actually took the shot. As for the post... I don't really have a comment, it looks to blend in to me because of the light sky and semi-washed out ground. But if I get more comments on it, I'll consider it. Just so you two know, an un-educated opinion is just as good as an educated one. Sometimes the education just gets in the way. (and thanks smalls... I've been trying to decide if I liked those shots since I put them on my computer. They might look good in b&w too...)

  • (By uneducated, I mean not having taken way too many photography classes to cloud your judgement of what you like and don't like. Not uneducated as in no schooling. Just thought I'd clarify.)

I kept looking at the first two, and it was difficult to decide which I like better, but I think it is the one with more sky, both are really great. I love barn 3, great textures and composition. :o)
