I Wasn't Going to Do This, But...

...there seems to be quite a bit of interest in Maine lighthouses and someone asked yesterday if one could get up into the lightroom in one. Well, the answer is YES! Pemaquid tower This first one is looking up the light from the inside with spiral stairs. The window blows out part of the wall and that's not so good, but...Shadows from the Light  Then this one shows the view looking northeast from the top of the light. You can even see a shadow of the light on the ground. Scene from the top: Pemaquid  This one shows the view looking east across the ocean. A bit of the fresnel lense is in the shot too. You can see a whole lens in the fisherman's museum at the lightkeeper's house. This is truly my favorite lighthouse site in Maine! The habba at dusk. And this one is from my 'hometown,' Boothbay Harbor at dusk. Sorry for the diversion from lighthouses, but I couldn't resist. Oh, and this one was taken with my point and shoot, a Panasonic LX1.

Beautiful shot looking up at the stairs- I also like the scene from the top.

  • Hey cokids! nice job on the pictures. I like the perspective of the Pemaquid tower, makes it look like a nautilus shell. All of the pics are great but would have liked to see them larger. Your use of floating the pics with a shadow has a pleasing effect on the eye too.

    - go take some pictures you

I really like the first shot it does look like a nautilus shell, crisp shot, good lighting to! I also like "Shadows from the Light" good wide angle shot!

I think next spring I'll try the tower one again and bracket it hoping to get a better over-all exposure. I think that bracketing and then using HDR in PS would produce a better shot. It's worth a try! Thanks for all the helpful comments, Beth

You've got nice composition in all of these, but that first one (of the circular staircase) is really grand.
