Lighting and contrast are nice but the composition fails me. Seem cropped a little too tight in each instance and the arrangement isn't quite pleasing. I have the same problems with still lifes.
You are making me hungrey. I can't comment much, way out of my mode. Only thing that came to mind was the first veggie shot, and this is only what one of our camera club judges said and I don't know if I fully agree with him; If it ain't movin, it should be fully in focus. I don't think that is possible, but if it is, your tomato and peppers are a little fuzzy. Personally I think there is a limit because of light, close work and DOF. What do they say in school?
I like the thumb best. Think Vermeer would have enjoyed it.

i agree with smalltown,& the old dude, about focus & composition. I also agree with tbell about the thumb. keep playing around, you'll only get better.
It's a view camera and a little hard to get it all in focus... I believe I was using an f-stop of 45 or higher (I think one of them may have been 64 which is where our view camera stops at). As for comp... no arguments. And I think DOF is a choice of taste and can be used artistically to focus attention on a certain object in some instances, old guy. I was certainly trying for a full range of DOF... but I tried and failed. Lastly, the thumb. It was posted last week. You can check my old stories/images for it.
you are absolutly correct, enigmaticfaerie. That is what I was ineptly trying to say. Some of our judges have their own take on things and think their way is the only way. Even with the high f stop you used, it was not possible to have the whole thing in focus because of the close work. One other thing, you didn't fail in the full DOF, the camera did. Sometimes our tools limit our imagination.
I agree with smalls' comment. And regarding TOG's comment about the fuzz on the tomato and peppers? ....Don't worry about it, we occasionly have that on ours when they're in the fridge. ;-)
LOL at Pyro, I was thinking that you captured the textures of the food really good. The peppers and tomatoes are smooth and shiney, the 'shrooms are rough. Looks like an interesting assignment.
Tough one for me to comment on EF. I'm not one for still life, and I rarely like black & white. (I know that's blasphemy, but so be it). I liked the lighting in both. The empty space on the left side of the first picture bothered me. I don't think I could have done any better though...keep on sharing.
