The politically correct naming of this shot would be... cinder-block_barn_window & board... but then I'm quite possibly the most polittically incorrect person on this site.. yep.. Great shot...

interesting, focus is great, but the shot lacks punch...or maybe I just need some more punch, spiked that is.

There's a lot I like about this shot. I like the textures, and the one color emphasis. The color seems a little washed out to me though, and I think I'd like the composition better if you cropped the door off the right hand side. I find the plank leaning against the door distracting, and I personally think the window would be a stronger element without the door there. That said, art is subjective, and I used my last two cents in the gumball machine at Wal-Mart, so what do I know?

well, you know what you like, bruce. interesting breakdown. i considered saturating the red more, but left it as is...the barn was kinda faded, and that was part of the attraction for me. i agree that the board draws attention, but (for me), it balances out the cinder block in the other corner. i tend to put lines into at least one corner of a pic. not sure what's up with that, but i apparently like it. i think it has to do with weight and balance for me. the primary element for me, is the weathered color and the wear on the boards. now, tell me which wal mart has penny gumball machines??

The fantasy one in my head! It also has free rum at the checkouts! One thing I've learned from this site is that people have different tastes. I posted the same photo here awhile back 'white balanced' 3 different ways and asked people which they liked better. It was interesting that all 3 received close to the same support based on what that person liked. And I did like your picture a lot. I hope you took that away too.

no worries, bruce. i figure if you'd hated it, you'd have said as much or just been polite and said nothing. i sometimes wonder what people see when they shoot a particular thing and knowing what that is will occasionally change the way i see it, too. thanks for indulging me in explaining what 'works' for me about it.
