Blue Snow

By bugaboo written 2/3/08 2:34 AM, published 2/4/08 5:39 AM

Some more photos from the day after our big snowfall. These were taken early in  the morning, it was heavily overcast making it difficult to capture sharp detail on a moving target, I played a bit in PS to enhance the contrast and sharpness. Any suggestions on better settings for my camera in these conditions or other enhancements from the ps program is always appreciated.

I can't give you any settings suggestions; sorry. Although these are soft, they're still good, I think. #5 is especially good; that's my fav.

Given the range and overcast skies... I think these turned out really well! Some of my snow shots were blue. I use photoshop elements. I went in to Correct Color Cast... and slid away from blue cast... but some I wound up converting to BW and found I had more control over the white balance by doing that. I wish I had a formula... but I am a just mess around with it till it looks ok kinda girl! I think my favorite of these is #3... I love his look in that one, and the composition is great... has an Asian feel...

With the shooting conditions being so difficult, I think you did really well. These are a little soft but focused, (does that make sense?). It adds to the misty feel IMO. Don't know what to suggest as to settings. I'm kinda like BSV. Play with it till it looks right. My faves are the first two. Lots of action in the wings & feet.

Even in bad conditions you did way better then I could ever do. Catching a blue in action like that is too cool. I can't offer any suggestions on camera settings. When it is like that I just keep playing with my settings until I get something that works for me.

Shows how much I know, I mean about the Louisiana Blue. All the rest of his family are down here in Florida where the fish are in water, not ice. I always thought they were Southern birds, at least in the winter. You done good with the captures, good shooting.

    - So shoot already!!
