Hummingbird time

Most of you know what a nut I am for hummingbirds and I go on this rant every year but I'm going to do it again.

Please....

If you are going to feed them clean your feeders at least every week.

DO NOT use that premix with the red dye in  it or add red dye to food that you mix on your own. It has been proven to mess with the birds kidneys.

It is easy to mix your own food. All you need is 1 cup of hot water and 1/4 cup of white sugar. They don't care what brand.

    Thank you... I have a couple of advantages over many of you. I have Anna's here all year and they are very used to me being around them and their feeders. One of the males comes in to eat and sits on "his" branch 3 feet away from me every morning while I'm sitting in the hot tub. I talk to him and he chirps back at me. Some days he stays right there while I get out of the hot tub and dry off and go inside. On the ones that don't stay all year I get more time to shoot them than most do. I work out of the house and the feeders are just outside of my office door.

    I love your hummmer shots! My feeder is clean and ready to go, just waiting for it to get warm! They say Memorial weekend here, but last year, they were back early, so probably put them out sooner. I always appreciate your reminders. :o)

    Frankenstein doesn't scare me. Hummingbirds do... cause they're fast! No, actually I'm scared of wasps and every time a hummer comes close my first thought at the sound is "WASP!" and I get an adrenalin spike and go into fight/flight mode for a second till the higher brain functions take over and tell me "not wasp...not wasp"! Very nerve-wracking but after a while I can almost control the response...if they'd just quit coming up behind me. 8o) Excellent shots, Mike, awesome!

    Great pictures, and I would also like to say thank you for the information. I love hummingbirds as they remind me of my grandmother (red birds remind me of my father). Can't wait to see more shots like these.

    Thanks again all. As they show up in more abundance I'll be posting more of them. I'm still waiting on my 3rs species, the Calliope to show up. I had one male and a number of females here last year but never got a shot of the male. He is on my "hit list" for sure this year.
