A cool new way to view slideshows!

Check out the sweet new way to view slideshows !
If you are running Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, or Opera on Windows or an Intel Mac, with a quick install of Silverlight you should be able to view the slideshows using the cool new method.
If for some reason, you cannot install Silverlight, you can always opt out. The system should detect if you are running a browser that cannot install Silverlight and simply use the old slideshow.
And just for the heck of it, here is another slideshow to test it out !
PS: I also changed how some things get loaded. Let me know if you run into any problems with *anything* :-)
PPS: Next up will be a way to zoom into images, as requested. It will be a silverlight app , just like the stuff above.

A test of the whole thing in IE6. Testing. Test. Tast. Toast.
Edit: Edit, Shnedit.

Thanks! It isn't perfect, but I think it is really darn cool. It also is a heck of a lot less flakey then before. I'm slowing working to replace all the "weird" junk with Silverlight stuff (while keeping the old methods around for those who for some reason cannot install Silverlight). For example, this very text editor is a great target to get spiced up, as is the process of uploading images, and adding them to your posts.

I just checked mine out. I love that you can make it full screen that is so GREAT! Seeing them bigger instead of little like they used to be.

Dunno how flickr does it, but my slideshow app will just take an image no bigger than 1024x1024 and stretch it out until it goes full screen.
I'm thinking there needs to be a way to easily reference slides in a comment. Like a link in the slideshow that says "reference this image in a comment"... or something. Dunno how that would work. I could just copy something to the clipboard...

Did you look at my last post with the new slideshow? It doesn't stretch them out. But it is nice that they are so much bigger.

It will keep the aspect ratio, but the image that is going over the wire is never larger than 1024x1024 pixels. So if you go fullscreen on a large monitor, it will enlarge the image.
I'd improve that, but then I'd need better servers :-)

Wow - way cool - thanks Cory. I like seeing the images at the bottom so that I can remember which I want to look at again.

Guess you have to hold your mouth right. Downloaded Silverlight--no slideshow. I gave up watching them a long time ago. Don't guess I'll start now either!

Small, Depending on your browser you might have to restart the browser. I've found on IE6, for example, that once I install silverlight, I have to restart IE. There is a way around it, but I haven't implemented it yet.
As for you kwsNI & your Chrome, all I can do is grin :-) I thought Chrome might have been supported, but I could be wrong. Do make sure that you aren't using the old beta version of silverlight... I haven't tested that case yet.
Chef, you can go back and use your old images but only in the silverlight version of the editor. It was too hard to implement right using just plain Javascript (seriously, you have no idea how much easier it is to do things correctly using Silverlight... in javascript, it is a major, major, major pain in the ass to get anything working right on all the browsers people use)
Tom, I'll keep testing what happens when silverlight isn't installed or enabled. The page I use right now could be improved to work better and offer you a way to continue viewing slideshows using the old method (which doesn't involve a popup window). As for Microsoft hate, well, I dont hate them with Silverlight :-) It has been a godsend for us web developers and they have a very strong business reason to support it on as many platforms as possible... they are trying to compete with Flash, and flash runs on anything (but is way harder for programmers like me to learn)!

I'm also using Chrome and nothing happens when I click the link. But hey, it's a beta browser, what do I expect? :D

Worked with Vista like a charm. And people complain about Vista....tsk, tsk. I'll see if XP has now managed it when I get home.
