This monday we had the most spectacular sunset I've seen in a long while.  Michael and I have a very nice view from our backyard and while we were working in the garden and the sun was slowly sinking I could just tell it was going to be a good one.  I ran inside and grabbed my D200 and snapped away.  I will say that I overexposed some shots (for foreground detail) and then did a slight underexposed shot for glorious sky color.  I then place one on top of the other in photoshop and used a mask to bring the best attributes of the picture on bottom.

June Sunset

And since it's a short week and everyone's been taking off here at work, I was slightly bored yesterday and have CS4 on my computer at work, so I played with the only effect I know how to use:  Orton Effect.

Thanks for looking, comments are always appreciated.  Oh and HAPPY 4th EVERYONE!

edit:  for those who want to know how to do the orton effect, here are the instructions

I like all 4 of the shots. I also really like the use of the Orton Effect. You live in very nice place.

Well now Les....  you know me....  I really like the first 2...  and I suppose if you like fuzzy photos ....  but to me (IMHO) the orton shots are just that...  fuzzy and flat...

    - Yep.... I can do that....

Lol... yeah.  I told ya, I was bored! :-D

Maybe I should look up a new technique to play with.  I even went into the archives and found Denise's fuzzy frame border and made one of those last week.  Maybe I'll play with that a bit and see if I can't make it work for the TONS of garden shots I have coming up soon.  I have a feeling it won't go over too well though....

I agree with both, (boy is that non-commital).  While interesting, I don't think there is a need to soften the two shots BUT if you had a reason for wanting them Ortonized then they came out great.  I like the composition and color of both; I like the hay roll in the scene.

The Ortonized affect is interesting to see, I am glad you shared it.

Love the first two, not so much the orton.  I DO like the orton effect on some photos, but not this.

Love the first two-I wish I had a place to go for beautiful sunsets, seem like houses are always in the way here......I'm not a fan of orton on most things, in fact very few things.  But it's always fun to play around and always learning is a good thing :)

I really like the first two, beautiful sunset.  On the second sunset, there are a couple bright spots (car lights?) in need of dimming.

I think one is the shell station down the road and the other... could be a house.  I never thought about cloning that out.  Tis a good idea, duck.

They are gorgeous, and the orton effect works for me, it is like remembering it from a dream.

For the first, I liked the effect on the field, but not on the trees
