Pilots and Aircraft are a big Challenge with no tripod.
Pilots fly so close to the power lines and roads. They go by at a blurr. If your are not careful, you will eat their dust while they fly off into the sunset.

I saw this just before dark, on my way home from work today. I wish I would have had my tripod and some set up time. I wanted to make a post on the challenge, so I did these free hand. I would like for them to have been clearer.

been so busy talking to you I didnt see your post.... try taking bursts of shots.... set your camera on center focus... and turn on the muti shot function... set the red dot on the subject let the camera do the rest... pull the triger and let it go... your going to get a whole lot of great shots that way instead of trying to take that ONE perfect shot.....
- Yep.... I can do that....

Thanks for the tip. It seems like I am never prepared for the shot. I have tried several times and can not open your last message. It's the time out thing.

Tough conditions - fast moving target, dim light - but good learning opportunity

Moving targets are hard imo but fun to try to capture. You did great. I esp. love the colors in the last one. We were traveling last summer and headed right for us it looked like, was a crop duster and of course my camera was in the case so didn't have time to grab it-lesson learned, leave it out while traveling :)

I love the last shot Paul, the color is awesome. For some reason, probably because of the sky, I like your first shot too. I've tried to take shots of jets with little success, I think SG had some great advice.

I'm with cindy. Great job with the stop action and the blurred action. Next you can try panning ;-)
I also love the colors in the last shot.

My favorite is the first and last shots. A neat set, also I have taken a couple of pictures the way Surferguy has said and it really works.
