Popping color

I was drawn to these guys because of the nice complementing colors. I tried to just get a sea of green and purple in the background with one as the focal point. But I can't tell if I like it in the shadows or in the light.
More critiques please!

I like it in the light Les. It really makes that purple pop.

Les, I also like the light one. If the compositions were the same it would be easier to tell, though. I like the light one for the composition as much as the light. The shadow one feels off-balance to me.

color and sharpness is spot on... but in my opinion there is far to much background in both... the purple color is lost in the DOF (background...)
- Yep.... I can do that....

It's kinda hard to get the same composition from two different sides. It would have been the same background then... and that would have defeated my original purpose. But I understand about the off-balanceness.

What Dub said - the composition is best in light . . . .and I agree that beauty berry (don't know the real name - that's all I've ever heard it called) is a great bush!!!

I think light highlights the berry better, but if shadow was cropped down the middle, it might be the winner.

I agree the light captures the color so much better. I would crop more. But I think you know that. You do good work. ;)

Love the color of these berries. I'm w/Duck on the cropping of shadow but then the hint of purple in the background would be gone and I like that. I like the lighting on the berries in light but the leaves in front looks to washed out.

Light for me. The colors really pop on it.

Les,I'm going to choose "light" because all the grapes are in focus, but I like a little less light to produce more drama...does that make sense?
