Having just returned from a trip to the Caribbean, I took some pictures while on the island of Roatan that I thought I'd share:

Beach: Roatan, Honduras - a rather tourist-y area of Roatan, many crowded unpaved streets and tourist shops - and an occasional view of the gorgeous beach and waters...

Cows: Roatan, Honduras - I thought it was interesting that cows languished on the beach here...

Shipwreck: Roatan, Honduras - if you look close in the grass, there's a tombstone... but the shipwreck out in the water steals away your eye...

Church: Roatan, Honduras - a hillside Church

I attempted to take some pictures using my cameras "NEF" or "RAW" capabilities, but my version of Photoshop does not know how to handle the document - the error message says it is "not the right type of document."  Does anybody know what I need to do?

g - very nice but I do have a couple of recommendations.

beach - moving to the right here to separate the two boats would have been better, rather than stacking them one atop the other.

church - very nice but it would be even better if you could clone out the power lines.

A lot of photo editors don't support the Nikon NEF or "raw" format. There are a few out there that do support it, though. I know Nikon makes one called Capture NX2. They include a trial version with some of their cameras.

Raw format - I'd google "Nikon D50 Raw Photoshop", another thing I'd do is on Flickr, search for the Nikon D50 group and ask the same question and/or search the group's discussions for RAW Processing.  Sometimes Photoshop will release a patch that solve those problems.

I had the same problem with a Canon G9, raw files not being read by Photoshop.  The latest upgrade to Photoshop does read the G9 raw files, but I don't want to upgrade.

I shoot 100% raw and I've never had a problem with photoshop...

DrZ - what version of PS are you using? I think the raw "nef" format would be the same, whether for your D700, or for his D50? I also shoot "raw" with mine, but I simultaneously shoot "jpg." I do some light editing on the "jpgs," but I haven't done any editing on the "raws."

Thanks for the feedback, Dub, guess I better go find out what "cloning out" means too...

My Photoshop is old, (7.0   --   pre-CS).  If I had the money to upgrade I probably would...  was hoping for a in-expensive solution.

    Enjoyed the shots, very nice.

For free editors, try googling it, there are a couple good ones out there.
