Nice shots there Roundabout. Reminds me of my visit to the Grand Canyon. Being an Aussie, I have to ask. How did the Badlands get it's name? I'll hazard a guess, is it because they are considered 'bad' for farming/grazing? Reminds me of the Bruce Springsteen song.

i guess they're bad because it would be bad to get lost up in there. that's a cute fat prairie dog.

That's some pretty stark scenery - gorgeous, but stark and arid and reminds me a liittle of Bryce Canyon. That last shot of the prarie dogs is great. Thanks for the smile.

Daz - I was wondering the same thing, so I Googled and got this:
Badlands got it's name from fur trappers who came to this area in the early 1800's. They called the area badlands, because of the complete lack of drinkable water in the region.
(I LOVE Google - sure wish I'd bought stock in it when I could afford it.)
