Cambodia Trip - Part 13 - Angkor Wat

Angkor Wat was for me to be the highlight of this trip, but I must say, I was a little bit let down by it for some reason! It is a massive temple complex set out on a vast landscape across a river/moat which is 190 metres wide. It is the best preserved and most famous of the temples in Asia. In fact it is the largest Hindu temple in the world. Built in the first half of the 12th century it was built in the Angkor Wat style of architecture. In it's day it would have been marvellous to see how it operated. It had a great big swimming pool on the upper levels. Would have loved to have done a few laps in it back in the day!

Looks to pretty well preserved.
Nice trip report. For some reason I liked the last one best.

Hard to imagine how difficult it must have been to build it!

daz - I was hoping we'd get to this place. It's beautiful as well as majestic, but I know what you mean about being a little let down by it. I've experienced that a time or two myself--really looking forward to seeing something for years and then finding that, nice as it is, the reality of it doesn't quite match up to those high expectations.
