Vancouver at Night

I feel very privileged to live in Vancouver - a place of stunning natural beauty.  Unknown to many Vancouverites is a by-law that restricts the height of buildings in the downtown core.  Although an irritation to developers, it means that the North Shore Mountains remain visible from most places in the city.  Our city has placed significant value on aesthetic.  It has paid-off.  Vancouver is a major tourist destination because it is just so beautiful.  Here's some of what can be seen at night.

These are just amazing! Two Cities is wonderful. Love the feel of the busy city & the calm beauty of the water. Really get the feeling of your description. Also love Steveston Sunset & Bus!

My wife and I are going to be visiting Vancouver this weekend (Saturday, Sunday)...going to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre to see Phantom of the Opera. The bed and breakfast we're staying in overlooks the city....hope to get some shots like this while I'm there. Any suggestions as to where to go during our short time there? I love Two Cities and Steveston Sunset...beautiful

awesome knep, two cities is soooo sweet, looks like a beautiful piece of sparkling jewelry... i didn't know that the building height was restricted but it doesn't surprise me, vancouver takes pride in being a large city with a smaller city feel. i've lived out of a suitcase since i was 12... started out taking train trips, throughout ns and then as i got older the rest of the maritimes... then later in life i've moved to alot of bigger places... i've moved 9 times since my son was born 3 short years ago (poor kid:) anyway, vancouver is the first place that has ever felt like home to me, including where i was born. I LOVE IT SOOOOO MUCH HERE! think they'll be taking me out in a pine box... unless the opportunity to move to hawaii comes:) holy long winded today, i think i should get off the computer and put this energy to good use... jam you will have an awesome time here... bring your camera and walk through stanley park and make sure you don't leave without seeing granville island! :)

I didn't know that Phantom was playing here. Where to go? Hmmm that depends on what kinds of things you like. A trip to the North Shore (Grouse Mt for example) should give you a great panorama view of the city. Your B&B host should have a list of fun things to do. Enjoy your time and I look forward to your pics.

knepomuk, I totally agree with you that Vancouver is a beautiful city. I was married there and have spent many summers there. We still have family in some nearby cities so we get there often. My family has always referred to it as God's Country. I agree javsmom that Stanley Park and Granville Island are must sees if you are visiting. I use to love going to Robson Street also to see the neat little shops.

Lovely shots, all. What a great place to live and shoot. I see Seattle has changed their building height requirements--and a building boom is on. We'll see how that shakes out in the next couple of years. I have a feeling the Space Needle will be dwarfed!
