The first day of classes

I'm back in Murf and it's cold again (had gotten into the 60s and 70s this weekend). I thought it might be reasonable to show my first attempt at ice macros.

A couple of weeks ago it got really cold in alabama, lows hitting around 12 and 14.  One afternoon after work, I wandered outside hoping to catch a beautiful sunset but with no such luck.  It was mediocre at best and instead I turned my attention to our little garden pond.  It had a thin sheet of ice on top of it and plenty of leaves frozen below the surface.  With the fading light, I used my on-camera flash adjusting the output to a desirable lighting condition and these are what I got.

ice pond
ice pond bw
ice pond bw 2

Most of them I didn't care for.  I couldn't get a composition I liked, or the flash reflection was just too darn bright, but I think these two were ok.

Let me know what you think.  Tomorrow... more ice, but in a different vision.

I like bw 2. Nice how the forming ice is reflected in shardlike fashion from the curl of the leaf.

    - say it with photos

I like the B&W on these it really brings out the patterns & textures.

  • msjudi
i like the patterns in BW best..

definitely bw. i can see the ice in those, couldn't really see much in the first one, though thats not saying much for me!

    - beauty in eyes of my son

yeah, I'm definitely a fan of the B&W for that reason too, leb. But I threw in the color just as comparison I guess.

I like the color one, a little dark, but I like it. (Course, I mainly like color anyway.)

Color For Me, Yep...Color My World!

    - NATURE RULES!!!

  • Penny
This is odd but I am going to go with the color. I think it has more definition. The colors break up the shot so you can tell better where one leaf ends and another begins.

I like the color best,, in the b/w cannot really make out what it is supposed to be.
