    I like the tones, but the light makes the image look really flat.  Like it's not really a 3D object but a paper cut-out.

    Interesting EMF I have trouble deciding if I'm looking inside the shell or at the outside it is not flat to me at all.

    My thoughts exactly, Ashton. Thanks! I take pleasure in the way the shell seems to alternately bulge out from and recede into the blackness. I wasn't really expecting that!

    I think it's more the black background that doesn't work for me in this image.  Maybe if it was a little gradiated and I could see a shadow of some sort I might get that effect, but as of right now it looks flat (i even looked at it again since everyone seems to see something I don't.).  But it's just me, I guess.

    I certainly see your point, faerie. In fact your honest critique is refreshing. The idea behind this photo was to highlight the spiral, not the shell itself. I don't know if that makes sense but it did to me at the time. Your comments really confirmed for me that I achieved my idea.
