There was plenty of jaw dropping scenery traveling east out of Zion.
Route 9's views cause the driver to swerve as they try to take it all in and drive at the same time!
As we came upon the
Checker Board Mesa
I yelled STOP!!!!!!!!
This is something we have to see, and of course photograph!
The Checkerboard Mesa is made of Navajo sandstone.
According to the guidebook the pattern is caused by vertical fractures and horizontal bedding planes accentuated by weathering.
