Nature put on an amazing show a couple days ago, and luckily I had a front seat. XD I did a bajillion photos, but here are four of the best ones, showing the sun passing through the cloud from beginning to end:

Hiding, breaking through, almost theremade it!

I appreciate any comments/opinions/critique/tips as always!

  • Nice job on the early morning venture.  The exposures are nice in all and I like the comp in 'hiding.'  That big tree really adds something to the frame, imo.  And I love the clouds in the second shot.  On the second two, watch your horizons.  I'm not sure if it's a hill or not, but being a silhouette, I would either really slant it or straighten it.  Having that slight run downhill is a little unsettling.

  • Like the first one best - and agree with the tree!  Second one also - nice rays and "accidental" bird on the right!

  • I really like the first two ... other than helping with the story the last one really lacks the interest the three have ... But all in all Well Done!!

enigmaticfaerie: It wasn't early morning, it was a sunset. XD I know about the horizons, this area is built on land with quite a few low hills that can be tricky to spot... I only noticed in post that the horizon was slightly slanted. Ah well. Anyway, thanks!

cratchet: Haha yeah the birds are just where I took so many shots there *had* to be a bird in a few of them... thanks.

VegasStan: Thanks! It would seem the first two win. ;)

The tree silhouetted against the sky really makes a difference; adds balance.  The bird is a nice touch, but doesn't do enough to make the image "interesting".  The standout is definitely the first shot, hiding.  The other three just don't do anything for me.  Sorry.

Very Nice! I think they could be cropped down a bit so there is not so much sky on the last three. The first shot was more balanced, with respect to the sky, since there was the silhouette of the tree on the left.

  • A nice post of a neat sunset. I always like a sunrise or a sunset with a sillhouette foreground and the tree is an asset.

Interesting. :D Thanks for all the comments! I'm just a sucker for sky/cloud so I kind of prefer the ones without the large silhouettes, but obviously the ones with wider appeal are the first two. Good to know. ;) I'll have to think more about framing the sunset when I take these in future.
