I took a few pictures this morning in the fog, in Valley Forge Park.

  • 1 and 6 look very similar, I can tell they're just slightly different crops.  I have to say I like the saturation of 6 and the crop of 1.  Perhaps even if you had moved more to the left in order to get more of the tree behind in the shot, that could have been nice (but I don't know what difficulties you might have concerning what's to the right of picture).  But I really like that comp. as is.  It's simple and clean.

Nice capture with the deer on 2.  The exposure looks nice, however just a little bit of contrast will help with the shady area where the deer are (not too much so the blacks don't block up though).  That should help the deer to stand out a little better.

Between 5 & 7, I like 5 better.  The 'whole' view gives the structure a place to be in, plus you have those three deer in the left hand corner.

Overall, nice set.  I hope this critique was informative and not too confusing (as I tend to ramble at times).

  • I like 5 & 6 the best but would crop each...5 at the bottom, see how U like it if you eliminate the patch of grass in the middle, the deer are still pretty well composed in the shot imo...and the left on 6 just to eliminate the curb...

the deer was a great capture too...I just like the others more.

What they said. The first deer shot would have been a good candidate for HDR if you have that option. Because I have the time to play with editing, here's my best synthesis of the tree and fog.

  • I think your composition is nice but the images seem too soft to me, more than anything.

I don't think there is anything I could cover that hasn't been covered already.

  • Thanks to everyone for the feedback; I do appreciate it. I went back at sunset to collect a few more images, I'll post them tomorrow.

smalltown - I think the softness is the fog - it was rolling around the entire area.
