I just thought I'd throw out some more shots from my cute blue camera and all it's plastic-ey goodness.

Spanish Market in Santa Fe

Beautiful evening sky (in b&w)

In Search of Great Pictures
(yes, that's a light leak in the top right hand corner.  You learn to live with them rather than fight them when shooting with a toy camera).

Thanks for looking and Happy Friday Everyone!

  • The first time I viewed "Spanish Market," it did not resinate with me. However, I was compelled to take a second and third look. The perspective with the blur is different and the layout compelling and the black and white works. Its hard to say what one element draws me in, but it does never-the-less. If it were my photo, I would crop out the table in the lower middle as I find it a bit distracting. Otherwise, a unique photo that I really like and would not hesitate to hang in my home.

  • I know what you mean about the table.  I've distressed over it a while about whether to crop or not and while one of my teachers didn't mention anything about it the other did and suggested the same thing as you.  I'm definitely going to take a look at it cropped and decide from there.

These look a bit like those shots you get from... what are they called? Hoga cameras? Those ones made in Hong Kong in 1982 that have a cult following. :D I didn't really get using a banged up old toy camera to take shots, but they're starting to grow on me. :P There's something charming about the way the colours bleed out and things blur. I really like Spanish Market!

  • Diana's are older and the focus is a lot more iffy than the Holga.  Diana's were made in the 1960's and are kinda like the orignal "toy camera."  And yeah, the style starts to grow on you.  It definitely has it's time and place though, but I've enjoyed mine so far.  I love thr freedom it gives me to not really think about the picture.  I just walk around with it set (very little to do btw, 3 apertures, 2 shutter speeds and three focusing distances) and snap when I see something that intrigues me.  But I definitely love the sharpness and control of my digital and 35mm film camera too.  Who says you can't love and practice multiple formats and styles?

Weather by accident or design, that Spanish Market has alot of character to it, and yes.. I would agree with the others about cropping the table out, IMO. Well worth framing, and the slightly off-kiltered angle adds a special touch to it.

I agree with everyone else here. The Spanish Market has a lot of characters, great eyes.
