To clone or not to clone........

The following picture was taken two weeks ago on my way to a community college chemistry teachers conference that was held in Leavenworth, WA. The town is about 1 1/2 hours East of Seattle and some day I would like to plan a vacation in which I could spend a couple of days to take in the sights.

 Leavenworth

I like the picture over all but there is dead tree in the foreground and I am not sure whether to clone it out or not. It seems it is a distraction but I feel that cloning it out would be cheating the natural beauty of the area. I am not against cloning in general and have done it in the past especially with specks and lens flare. Any thoughts will be appreciated. I am leaning to clone it out.

  • in my opinion the dead tree is the most important item in the shot...  not only a very interesting element... it lends perspective to the entire scene...   wonderful shot as is....

I didn't even notice the tree until you said about it, my eye was drawn straight to the mountain. :) And SG has a point. I'd leave it alone.

  • I also did not notice the tree until I read your comment.  I say leave it, that is nature.

I also find it interesting and a little stark but it adds.

  • Yep... I wouldn't have noticed it either.  I find the angle a little unusual, but it's nice and different.

  • I noticed it right away and then visually followed the river to the mountains and then back to the dead tree for another look. The tree is unique and adds originality to the image. Clone it out and then decide.

  • Leave it alone. It is a beautiful shot and I did not ntice the dead tree till I looked again at it. Dead tree does not distract from the beauty of it.

It's an magnificent shot as it is. If you want to experiment with it make a copy and save the original

  • Leave the tree - the shot is so perfect that it almost doesn't look real . . . the tree stands out in a good way!!

Thank you all for commenting. I am really torn in altering the photo. I appreaciate the input since I know that what we all have experienced a time in that we post set of pictures and think that our peers will gravitate to one particular photo (our personal favorite) then find out that they actually like a completely differnet one. We sometimes tend to be too close to our own photo and form a bias. From the comments this seems to be the case for this one in that I am biased in thinking the tree is distracting. Again, thanks to each of you for the input.

  • I like it the way it is.

Other options: re-crop to a vert. format.
Add an bald eagle on top of it.

Only if you can clone a IN-N-OUT burger joint in there. No....don't even think about it. Beautiful place, great capture.

Leave it alone!  The only way it could be better is if I was standing by the tree!

Leavenworth is an awesome place... definitely one of my favorite places!  There's a little place west of Leavenworth called Plain that is one of the most beautiful places in the area.  In the summer there is great river rafting to be done on the Icicle River.  The town has some great events that happen year 'round there
