Birds are my favorite subject to photograph, hopefully I'm getting better with the focus. I'm working on it!

Thanks for checking them out. Have a great weekend everyone!

I think you did a fantastic job. Seeing as how I've never gotten a good bird shot, I can say you're doing better than me! The focus is definitely good in some. Are you shooting through a screen or window because all the shots seem to have a glazy fog about them. I do like the comp in the first one though and find it to be the best of the group. Keep trying. If you want to look at some really great birding shots, try looking at ClassyShots images. He's an old member and doesn't come around much, although I wish he did.

Haha those are some pretty nice shots! Enigmatic has a point about the glaziness though. Good work anyway.

Wow EF, you really know what you're looking at. They were taken through glass. It is really difficult to do otherwise. I only have the zoom on my camera to work with, no extra lenses as of yet. I can't get close enough outside without them flying away (that's the problem with moving subjects, haha). Maybe the fog wouldn't be as noticable if it were a sunny day? I don't know. Thanks for your help!

i figured. And i know what you mean about getting them in the wild. You'd have to stake 'em out and be still and at the ready for hours and seeing as one shot has ice in it, I'm betting that would be too cold to do. I don't have any suggestions on what to do otherwise... but maybe someone else will. Like I've said, I've never gotten a good shot myself. All I know is keep trying. Perseverance will shine through.

Angie-I've shot a lot thru window's before with pretty good success. I have found certain angles are worse than others. Also I think glare and the sunlight has a lot to do with it. Just have to find the correct spot w/your window. (keep it extremely clean and streak free helps too) I spend a lot of "still" time outside trying to capture my birds.(and boy does my arms get tired) But then again I also use a 300mm so that helps. Keep trying and good luck.

Thanks Cindy, I'll remember that. Your 'through the glass' shots ARE really good, I remember the toad in particular. I've tried waiting outside too, that's funny about the tired arms. My 10 year old son usually wants to come out with me too and he can sit still for almost a whole 10 minutes! LOL.

Good bird shots. I've heard that a blue jay can get three peanuts in their mouths at once.
Can you make an 'indoor' blind? Open the window large enough for the camera, place blankets/rugs/something until you have only the space for the camera and shoot through the hole. Course you'll have to remove any screens, and maybe keep the stuff in the window until the birdies get use to it. (A bonus - it's easier to shoot those pesky squirrels!)

Thanks Robin & Mr. Q. I have done the 'indoor blind' thing before, usually in the warmer weather & it works well..that is if I remember to lock up my indoor cat first. There's been a few times where I've almost dropped my camera trying to catch her before she makes a break for it. Thanks for the advice, this is such a helpful community.

Must admit have tried capturing birds through my window and w/o much success..the adivce about covering the window and leaving a hole for the camera would be too much work for me....
Can't believe that you are able to see the 'extra' nut in the birds mouth. You did good on that catch.
I like the soft focus of the first one best....

The first picture is spectacular - I actually like the softness from the glass. The composition is perfect - begs to be a Christmas card!!
