  • Steel plant has an over all blue tint, and the horizon is off.

    A nice shot of Nick.

You seem to do best in portrait photography. Nick is a fine shot.

Glad you set him on the right, rather than centering him. You used the Rule of Thirds which is a good thing.

Nick is a nice portrait.  since these both have a slight tint to them, I'm guessing you did that on purpose and it works very well on Nick.  The shot of Bethlehem steel looks slightly tilted, but part of that is just the distortion from the wide angle lens - you might want to crop off a bit of the right side of the image (say, to about the middle of the road, to get rid of the leaning tower on the right)  - it will make your image seem straighter and make the composition more effective.

And yes, it is a shame that they shut down the steel mills in the Midwest.  We had one in Cleveland that went the same route as yours a few years ago and there is now a huge shopping mall where the blast furnaces used to be.  So many jobs and so much history lost...

  • No critique on picture but am glad you got the shot. It's part of history. Nice shot of Nick.

Thanks for the comments. As for the "tint" i did it on purpose. I actually like it. I also have it converted to black and white which looks better. But I see your points. And will use them in the furture. I have more of the steel and surrounders that I will post soon!

All in all it is what you like that matters with your work. I do like the tint for Nick but not so much for the Plant, but the horizon being off bothers me more then the tinted look!  Both shots well composed and exicuted!

Not to sound like I can't take criticism but the horizon being off? How can it be "off" when I pointed the camera at the bethlehem steel and took the picture, all in all its a snap shot i wasn't looking for some perfect photo!

  • Don't know how the effect happened but to me the steel plant looks like it is slanting backwards--and agree on some of the old places being torn down/demolished to make way for progress....I like the one of Nick (was it a chilly day, his cheeks really look red)
